Many businesses have started to dedicate budget specifically to Facebook Advertising, which goes to show how much social media has integrated itself into our personal and professional lives. However, like any other marketing channel, you need to utilize Facebook properly, or else your budget will go to waste.
Mistake #1 – Not Monitoring Ads
All marketing requires regular monitoring. To have a successful Facebook campaign, you can’t only rely on automation tools. But we know how tempting it is to just rely on them to do the work. You will always know more about your audience and goals than Facebook will, so doing daily checks and weekly deep dives is highly recommended.
Mistake #2 – Not Targeting Properly
Since Facebook allows you to pick from groups of people to target your ads towards, you can get pretty granular with your who sees your ads. The targeting can be based on interests, behaviors, demographics, and geographic area. You’ll need to really understand who your audience is and where they are in order to set up strong targeting.
Having a buyer persona as well as a few modifications to that is a great place to start. From there, it is easier to narrow down their interests and behaviors.
Mistake #3 – Testing Too Many Options at Once
It’s always a good idea to do some A/B testing with different ads within your audience. An easy way to do a test is by changing out the creative, or image, of an ad or try a different call-to-action. But, testing should be done mindfully and it should include an adequate amount of time to learn which parts of each ad have the best impact on your audience.
Another common Facebook ads mistake is to not isolate one area to test at a time. If you don’t confine your ad variables, it will be, or at times even impossible, to know for sure which variable created a better reaction and conversion.
Mistake – #4 Not Utilizing Analytical Tools
Facebook Analytics is a really great tool and we highly recommend using it. It let you know how each ad performed compared to the others in your campaign. This information can be used to learn what is working with your audience and what needs to be changed or cut out.
Tracking your campaigns via analytical tools is the best and most precise way to know for sure that they are working. Having insight is invaluable to your efforts, strategy, and budget.
